Powertex - Basic Instructions
Basic requirements for a Sitting Lady Statue:
For each creation specific materials are required but to give you an idea of what is required for a general sitting statue please refer to the following list of materials:
A class for beginners lasts approximately
The 1st part of the workshop involves building a frame for the sculpture using armature wire, aluminium foil and masking tape. Once the desired body shape has been achieved we apply the first layers of fabric that have been dipped and coated with Powertex by wrapping them around the sculpture.
The 2nd part involves the dressing of the sculpture with the chosen textiles; this may involve using fabric dipped into Powertex to drape or wrap over the statue to form a skirt, top, pants or dress. Highlight with desired colours by dry brushing your sculpture to enhance your end result.
You may be asked to bring a t-shirt (XL, 100% cotton without print) or if you wish your statue to sit on something such as a pedestal or base (approx 15cm high).
(Check with your teacher what’s required when booking)
Some examples of bases include a terracotta flowerpot; a piece of wood, an old candlestick, or a rock is acceptable.
After the beginners class, you may decide to move on to the next level and make more complex creations.
You’lll be the envy of all your friends when you tell them that you didn’t buy that fantastic sculpture on your mantle, “YOU MADE IT!!”
